Tokoname is home to one of the six old kiln areas in Japan, where it is said over 3000 ancient kilns sites are located along the Chita peninsula. Although the Tokoname area kilns craft several types of pottery, they are renowned for their Kyusu tea pots. The fine clay, unique to the area, allows for very refined details and intricate surface carving. This rustic, deliciously tactile kyusu fits beautifully in the hand, with two gentle"dimples"on either side of the pot to allow for ease in handling. The interior is glazed to a smooth finish.
